World brotherhood and peace through poetry

20th World Congress of Poets

Lexington Hotel, Montgomery, Alabama, USA

June 13-17, 2007

Mrs. Mary Halliburton, President

From the moment we stepped off of the plane, southern hospitality was offered in abundance. Many delegates were met by a limousine with a red carpet. All were met by smiling “locals” with names and photos so we could not get lost. Our hotel had palm trees in the lobby and was draped with the national flags of the delegates attending. We were taken on guided tours of the Alabama State capitol, many official buildings and historical sites, and even a minor league baseball game. In the hotel, we had poetry readings and presentations of papers and scholarly works by the delegates. Montgomery’s Mayor Bobby Bright was guest speaker at our opening dinner. Dr. Susan B. Walker, Poet Laureate of Alabama, was our guest speaker at a catered lunch on the top floor of the tallest building in town.
