THE FOURTH UPU POETRY CONTEST 2009
 

TO: UPLI POETS AND OTHERS. You have expressed enjoyment and appreciation for the
past three series of the UPLI Poetry Contests.  Therefore, today, we are passing out to you
the fourth series of contests. Please help us distribute this to your friends, other organizations,
and encourage everyone you can to enter.

 

DEADLINE DATE: RECEIVED BY JUNE 1, 2009.

 

Rules and guidelines for the UPLI Poetry Contest
   -- (please distribute copies to your poet friends)

 

I. DEADLINE: Entries must be received by June 1, 2009.
   Write “UPLI Contest" on envelope.

2. All entries must be the work of the contestant.
   KEEP COPIES -NO ENTRIES WILL BE RETURNED .

3 .ENTRY FEES: $5.00 PER POEM ENTERED.
   No Limit on the number of entries.

4. No individual poem may be entered in more than one category
   LINE LIMIT: Specified on each category .

5. OPEN CONTEST: Anyone may enter any of the contest categories.

6. Send two copies of each poem.
     Put category name and # in the upper left corner of each page.

     On the second copy, put your name in the upper right comer of page .

7. FORMAT: Entries must be typed on one side only of white 8 1/2 x I I paper
    in English only.

8. Decisions of Judges will be final.

9. Winners will be notified. Send SASE FOR A COPY OF THE WINNER'S LIST .

10. NET PROCEEDS WILL GO TO UPLI.

I 1. Make check payable to UPLI Contest. (DO NOT SEND CASH)

12. International money orders must include a $10 collection fee,
   which is charged by US banks.

13. Wire transfer through Western Union is a safe and convenient way to pay contest fees
     for our International Poets. Enclose copy of wire transfer document with entries.

CATEGORY 2. FREE VERSE POETRY: Any subject, any form, 30-line limit.

CATEGORY 3. HSINKU FORM: 
    (A Hsinku poem is a four line poem with the 2nd and 4th lines rhyming.

   The 4th line is an ironic twist of enlightenment on the first three lines.
